New Director of the Doctoral School

The Rector, Professor Andrzej Tretyn, has appointed the directors of the five doctoral schools operating at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń.

The new Director of the Doctoral School of Humanities, Theology and Arts is Professor Anna Branach-Kallas from the Faculty of Humanities.

Professor Branach-Kallas has been affiliated with the Institute of Literary Studies at NCU in Toruń since 1996 and specializes in English-language literature and culture. A graduate in both English and Romance philology, she received her PhD in 2002 and her habilitation in 2011. Her research interests include postcolonial literature, war trauma, comparative literature, and medical humanities. She is the author of four monographs, including the award-winning Uraz przetrwania, and co-author of Comparing Grief... (Brill-Rodopi, 2018). She has published over 90 academic articles, edited numerous collective volumes, and collaborates with renowned journals. She has received fellowships from, among others, the Batory Foundation, the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP), and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). She has led research projects funded by the National Science Centre (NCN) and has held research fellowships in Toronto and Vancouver. Since 2016, she has served as Chair of the Polish Association for Canadian Studies, and from 2019 to 2024, she was Chair of the Discipline Council for Literary Studies at NCU.

Professor Branach-Kallas will assume the position of Director of the Doctoral School on September 1, 2024, and will hold the post until August 31, 2028.
