We are delighted to announce that our doctoral researcher, Mr Edgar J.A. Jephcote, has been awarded a scholarship from the Clifford and Mary Corbridge Foundation, enabling him to undertake a one-month research stay at Robinson College, University of Cambridge.
The project focuses on the analysis of the motif of women waiting at windows in the novels of Charles Dickens and its significance for the interpretation of Victorian domestic and urban spaces. The research stay will provide an opportunity to expand the theoretical foundations of his doctoral dissertation and to further explore literary and artistic representations of the city in nineteenth-century culture.

Edgar J.A. Jephcote is a doctoral researcher in literary studies. He is preparing a PhD dissertation entitled “Women Waiting in Windows: Re-Framing Victorian Domestic Space in Dickensian Fiction” under the supervision of Dr hab. Katarzyna Więckowska, Professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University.His research interests include Victorian literature, the works of Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Gaskell, urban spatial studies, and the relationships between literature, culture, and gender.
